About the Firm ...

James T. Ratner is an attorney whose practice focuses on qui tam, or whistleblower litigation, under the False Claims Act. Mr. Ratner has been retained in a wide range of cases throughout the nation, including those involving Medicare and Medicaid fraud. The United States has found merit and intervened in many of Mr. Ratner's cases, resulting in substantial awards for his clients.

In 2008, he represented the qui tam plaintiff, a registered nurse, in a lawsuit which resulted in the defendant paying $26 million to the United States to settle the matter (United States ex rel. Tami Ramsey v. St. Joseph's Hospital). In 2006, Mr. Ratner successfully represented the qui tam relator in a case against a national physician practice management firm, wherein the defendant paid approximately $25 million to the United States to settle False Claims Act allegations. Prior to that, the firm initiated a qui tam case against a major laboratory, resulting in the defendant paying $9 million to the United States to settle the matter.

The firm successfully represented a USPS postmaster in a groundbreaking case, Holmes, in which an appellate court, en banc, definitively established the right of federal employees to file qui tam actions.

Before you retain an attorney in a qui tam case, satisfy yourself that the attorney has actually successfully handled a qui tam case. Qui tam cases are not at all similar to personal injury actions.
